A Swiss man, looking for directions, pulls up at a bus stop where two Americans are waiting.

"Entschuldigung, koennen Sie Deutsch sprechen?" he asks. The two Americans just stare at him.

"Excusez-moi, parlez vous Francais?" he tries. The two continue to stare.

"Parlare Italiano?" No response.

"Hablan ustedes Espanol?" Still nothing.

The Swiss guy drives off, extremely disgusted. The first American turns to the second and says, "Y'know, maybe we should learn a foreign language."

"Why? That guy knew four languages, and it didn't do him any good."

スイス人が道を聞こうと、二人のアメリカ人が待つバス停で車を止める。

「エントシュルディグング　ケネン　ジー　ドイチェ　シュプレッヒェン？」 とスイス人が尋ねる。二人のアメリカ人は彼を見ているだけ。

「エクスキュゼモワ、パレル　ヴ　フランセ？」とスイス人。二人は依然見つめ続ける。

「パルラーレ　イタリアーノ？」反応なし。

「アブラン　ウステデス　エスパニョール？」やはり反応なし。

スイス人は、すっかりうんざりして走り去った。アメリカ人が連れに向かってひとこと。「なぁ、オレたちも１つぐらい外国語を習うべきかもな」

「なんで？ あの人、４カ国語も知ってて、ぜんぜん役に立たなかったじゃん」
