Perfect Faith

A postal worker finds an unstamped, poorly written envelope addressed to God. He opens it and discovers it's from an elderly lady, distressed because $100 of her grocery money has been stolen. She will be without food till the first of next month.

Concerned that the old woman would be hungry, the postal worker takes up a collection for her from his fellow co-workers, and comes up with $96. Then they have her mail carrier deliver it to her that very day.

A week late, the worker recognizes the same writing on another envelope addressed to God. He opens it to read:

"DEAR GOD, THANK YOU FOR THE $100 YOU SENT ME. I WOULD HAVE GONE HUNGRY WITHOUT IT.

YOUR FAITHFUL SERVANT,
MARTHA

P.S. IT WAS $4 SHORT, BUT THAT WAS PROBABLY BECAUSE OF THOSE THIEVING BASTARDS DOWN AT THE POST OFFICE!"

ある郵便局員が、切手が貼られていない、ヘタクソな字で神さま宛てに送られた封筒をみつけた。彼は封筒を開き、手紙を読んだ。それは老婆が書いたもので、食料品用のお金100ドルを盗まれ、苦悩にあえいでいるという旨が書かれていた。そして、来月の一日になるまで食べ物にありつけないのだという。

老婆の貧困を心配した郵便局員は、同僚たちから寄付金を集め、額は96ドルまでになった。その96ドルを、その日のうちに老婆の家に配達した。

それから1週間後、郵便局員は、以前と同じヘタクソな字で書かれた神さま宛ての封筒を発見した。彼は封筒をあけ、手紙を読んだ。

「親愛なる神様。先日は、100ドルを送っていただき、ありがとうございました。これがなければ、餓死していたところでした。
