Beware

Upon entering the little country store, the stranger noticed a sign saying, "DANGER! BEWARE OF THE DOG!" posted on the door. Inside, he noticed a harmless old hound dog asleep on the floor besides the cash register.

He asked the store manager, "Is THAT the dog folks are supposed to beware of?"

"Yep, that's him," he replied.

The stranger couldn't help but be amused. "That certainly doesn't look like a dangerous dog to me. Why in the world would you post that sign?"

"Because," the owner replied, "before I posted that sign, people kept tripping over him."

要注意

通りすがりの小さな田舎の雑貨店に入ろうとして、男は「危険！犬に注意！」 という注意書きがドアに貼られているのに気がついた。中に入ると、レジのそばの床に、おとなしそうな年老いたハウンド・ドッグが寝ている。

彼は店長にたずねた。「注意しなきゃいけない犬ってあれ？」

「んだ。あいつだ」と店長。

男はおかしくてたまらなかった。「あの犬が危険だなんて、オレには全然そう見えないな。いったいなんであんな注意書きを貼ったんだい？」

「なんでって、」と店主。「あの注意書きを貼るまえは、来る人来る人、あいつにつまずいちまってたからさ」
