Expected Baby

For weeks a six-year old lad kept telling his first-grade teacher about the baby brother or sister that was expected at his house.

One day the mother allowed the boy to feel the movements of the unborn child. The six-year old was obviously impressed, but made no comment. Furthermore, he stopped telling his teacher about the impending event.

The teacher finally sat the boy on her lap and said, "Tommy, whatever has become of that baby brother or sister you were expecting at home?"

Tommy burst into tears and confessed, "I think Mommy ate it!"

何週間にもわたり、６歳の少年は、近々生まれる予定の弟か妹のことを学校の先生に話していた。

そんなある日のこと、お母さんは赤ちゃんが動くお腹を触らしてあげた。この６歳児はあきらかに心を動かされたようだったが、何も口にしなかった。しかも、その後先生に対しても、赤ちゃんのことを一切話さなくなってしまった。

心配した先生は、少年をひざの上にのせてこう言った。「トミー、あなたが楽しみにしていた赤ちゃんはどうしちゃったの？」

トミーは突然わっと泣き出して、心のありったけを伝えた。 「お母さんが食べちゃったんだ！」
