Memory Clinic

Two elderly couples were enjoying friendly conversation when one of the men asked the other, "Fred, how was the memory clinic you went to last month?"

"Outstanding," Fred replied. "They taught us all the latest psychological techniques-visualization, association-it has made a big difference for me."

"That's great! What was the name of that clinic?"

Fred went blank. He thought and thought but couldn't remember. Then a smile broke across his face and he asked, "What do you call that flower with the long stem and thorns?"

"You mean a rose?"

"Yes, that's it!" He turned to his wife, "Rose, what was the name of that clinic?"

２組の老夫婦が、お気楽なおしゃべりを楽しんでいた。夫同士の会話。「フレッド、お前さんが先月行ったメモリークリニック、どんな具合じゃった？」

「最高じゃよ」フレッドは答えた。「最新の心理学的記憶術を残らず教わってのう。 心象化とか、連想法とか・・・。今じゃワシはすっかり変わったよ」

「すごいな！何て名前のクリニックだ？」

フレッドの頭は真っ白になってしまった。考えに考えたが、どうしても思い出せない。やがて、満面の笑みを浮かべながら、彼は尋ねた。「長い茎にトゲがある花は、何ていう名前だったかのお。」

「ローズ（薔薇）のことか？」

「ああ、それじゃ！」フレッドは妻の方を向いて、「ローズ、あのクリニックの名前は何じゃった？」
